Adventurers' HistoryFeast of Swords, an official event themed after the Japanese tradition of Boys’ Day, is held for the first time. In this event, adventurers are to wield an Ibushi Shinai and put an end to high-speed armor-thieving brigands. Feast of Swords returns in following years as an annual seasonal event.

(as they were known at the time), is held between representative teams from each World to determine the best team in Japan. The tournament finals are held on August 27, 2005 at Famitsu PRESENTS FINAL FANTASY XI Summer Carnival 2005, where Team Lovehame from the Siren World emerges victorious.

Behind-the-scenes CommentaryAt the time, I was part of the FINAL FANTASY XII development team, but I frequently corresponded with FINAL FANTASY XI team member Yoshitsugu Saito to create the ideal ending. Creating the ending became an irreplaceable memorable for me. We spent countless hours poring over videotapes of the cutscene, well into the night. I remember being very surprised when I heard that "Distant Worlds" would be performed by an opera singer. The song and vocals were wonderful, and I can only say that I was in awe in how they were able to portray the world in its entirety. (Yaeko Sato, Planner)

Adventurers' HistoryThe accuracy and damage of ranged attacks are changed to be affected by the player’s distance to the target. The optimal range for maximum damage varies with each weapon, such as guns being effective at close range, while bows are effective at relatively longer distances. This drastically changes battle strategies for rangers, who boasted overwhelming damage output in most situations prior to the change.

Peacock Charm, previously obtained from the NM Argus in the Maze of Shakhrami, particularly skyrockets in demand, leading to an increase in feuds and market prices. This leads to the NM drop being switched to the Peacock Amulet with identical effects, and the Peacock Charm becoming a battle reward from the Orb Battle "Under Observation."

Events in Vana'dielA stronger version of weakness status, commonly referred to by players as “double weakness,” is added. This is inflicted upon resurrected players who were already afflicted with weakness status prior to being K.O.’d, and lowers the accuracy and damage of their magical and ranged attacks to their lowest possible state. This addition of double weakness prevents the use of “zombie strategies” where players chip away at an enemy with magical attacks while repeatedly getting K.O.’d and resurrected.

Events in Vana'dielBlitz Buffalo, an official event themed after the Spanish tradition of the Running of the Bulls, is held, where participants can obtain the Red Sash and Dash Sash by defeating the Buffalo NMs Toro and Miura. Though Blitz Buffalo does not return in the following years, the event is reintroduced in 2008 as Blazing Buffalo, where the objective is to guide Buffaloes rather than cull them. Ancient beastcoins obtained in these areas can be exchanged for various rewards or used to upgrade artifact gear. Additionally, rewards from certain areas can be exchanged for Homam gear and Nashira gear.
