New jobs in Seekers of Adoulin

We wanted to add a job that existed in previous FINAL FANTASY titles, and geomancer was chosen. Geomancers were known for their terrain-based attacks in previous titles, but this didn’t work well within FFXI and they were instead designed as support.
For an FFXI-original job, we added rune fencer. Tanking with red mages, which was popular for a time, served as its basis. (Masaru Taniguchi, Planner)

Choosing the Name Went Eerily Smooth…

From what I remember, we wanted to adapt to the modern trend of making announcements via broadcast, which ended up being a smooth decision. When it was time to choose the name of the show, I casually suggested, “What about something like ‘Freshly Picked Vana’diel,’ for example?” I wasn’t expecting them to go with my lighthearted proposal, and I haven’t been able to shake off a sense of uneasiness about the name since.
Nowadays, text alone isn’t enough to share update information, and I believe broadcasts to be an excellent method of conveying the intentions behind each update, or reasons why we can’t or won’t make certain changes. For each episode, we tried to find the sort of topics that Mr. Matsui and Mr. Fujito could provide unique insight into, and eventually settled on the style we have today. We’ll continue to bring information your way in this manner! (Kazuyoshi Mochizuki, Lead Community Planner)

    December 11, 2013 version update

I’ll leave it to Producer Matsui to explain our intentions behind the version update, but I have lots of memories of it since it was my first job. A new submenu was to be added for alter egos, but I felt like the submenu was almost sacred and wasn’t sure if someone from a player background like me had the right to change something that was untouched for so long. While I dwelled on it right up until the day of the version update, other members of the development team took it lightly and assured me it’d be okay to tweak things if it was necessary. I was taken aback by our different perspectives, which to me felt like something that set the developers apart from players. In the end, I was relieved there wasn’t too much uproar about the submenu.
