February 10, 2016 – An event to further reforge relic, mythic, empyrean, and ergon weapons is added. Reforging the weapons requires delivering 10,000 of a corresponding item to Oboro. The resulting weapons are enhanced in various ways; for example, reforged bows and guns receive the ability to dispense special ammunition, and reforged relic weapons gain aftermath effects.

March 31, 2016 - Service ends for the PlayStation®2 and Xbox 360® versions of FINAL FANTASY XI, while the Windows version remains in service. The Windows version client can be downloaded for free and a free trial is also available which includes 14-days of play time.

April 5, 2016 - Battle content where enemies and rewards change with every version update, known as Ambuscade, is added. Battles take place in Maquette Abdhaljs-Legion, which is accessible from Mhaura.

April 5, 2016 - The mounting feature is added. Upon completion of the quest "Full Speed Ahead!" players are able to ride mounts aside from their chocobo, increasing movement speed anywhere they can be called forth. Various mounts continue to be added to this day.

May 10, 2016 - Battle content known as Master Trials are added. These challenges can only be undertaken with a party fully consisting of players who have achieved job master status in the job they desire to play in the content. Only one battlefield is added in this update, but this has increased to four as of 2021.

May 10, 2016 – The effects of certain food items are added to their help text. The remaining food items also have their effects listed in their help text through subsequent updates. The new descriptions are a big help when deciding what food to eat for a given situation!

May 10, 2016 - A new system for storing crystals is added in the form of NPCs located outside various guilds, known as Ephemeral moogles. They can store up to 5,000 crystals of each element.

June 7, 2016 – The quest "The Ygnas Directive 1" is added to Records of Eminence, serving as an epilogue to the events of Seekers of Adoulin. Beginning the quest requires completion of all Seekers of Adoulin missions, as well as nearly every quest in Adoulin to obtain the Golden shovel cordon Key Item. The story would go on to continue in later updates and finally concludes with "The Arciela Directive" in which adventurers are awarded with the ability to summon Ygnas's alter ego.

June 7, 2016 – Chocobo Digging undergoes several adjustments, such as the removal of limitations on items found per area, the addition of new items that may be found, and a new feature where chocobos gain special effects based on their attributes. Furthermore, chocobos and other mounts are now ridable in certain areas where they were previously unavailable, and personal chocobos can now initiate Chocobo Digging.

August 3, 2016 - The /yell command is expanded to include more areas, reaching major cities on the continents of Quon and Mindartia in present Vana'diel.

December 13, 2016 - Omen is added for players who have completed Rhapsodies of Vana'diel. A group of up to 18 adventurers may face the challenges in Reisenjima Henge in order to upgrade their item level 119 artifact armor.

December 13, 2016 – An event enabling the reforging of item level 119 artifact armor up to two more times is added. Many of the reforged artifact armors feature significant increases in accuracy and magic accuracy, and set bonuses are later added in March 2017. Reforging the armor requires job cards obtained from the newly added Omen battle content and other specialized materials.
