FINAL FANTASY XI Dramatic Reading Event Held

February 17, 2024 – A dramatic reading event set in the world of FINAL FANTASY XI is held in cooperation with the publishing company KADOKAWA at Tokorozawa Sakura Town in Saitama prefecture, with the main cast consisting of Emiri Kato, Yu Asakawa, Nozomu Sasaki, and Hiroshi Shirokuma. With five all-new episodes featuring characters such as Lilisette and the Five Serpent Generals, these tales focus on original stories not from the game.

    Behind-the-scenes Commentary
    New Methods of Storytelling

The dramatic reading event is part of our newly launched initiative designed to use non-textual means to portray various side stories and anecdotes that are not part of the game itself.
This marked our first dramatic reading event for FFXI, and featured music and images from the game to help accentuate the performances by the star-studded cast, which included Emiri Kato. I felt that the episode starring Lilisette was especially heart-wrenching.
Although many people hear the term "dramatic reading" and immediately conjure images of voice actors simply narrating books, it is actually more of a stage play that focuses on the "audio" aspects of conveying a story.
Through this event, the audience was given an all-new way to experience the world of Vana'diel. These memorable performances are a must-see for anyone who has yet to experience the show for themselves. (Yoji Fujito, Producer/Director)

    Reminiscing with Vana'Bout

Between May 16 and 30, 2024 – As part of Round 2 of Vana'Bout, special objectives such as At the Summit, Mandragorian, and Tiger's Fang are added. The content of these objectives recalls some of FFXI's earliest quests, with numerous players noticing connections such as the reemergence of the Fang Finder title after twenty years, and that it now only takes one minute to cook a Galkan sausage. In addition, Round 3 is held in October, with objectives such as Pixie Power added.

Earning Gil in Odyssey's Sheol B

Between Spring and Summer 2024 – Odyssey's Sheol B garners significant attention as an excellent way to earn gil within the game. Once players make their way through Sheol: Gaol and no longer have a need for moogle segments, they focus on Sheol B as a way to earn large amounts of gil, causing them to recruit other players to help take on the content. Furthermore, the lustreless hide that is obtainable in Sheol B can be sold for a high price, thanks to its use in enhancing Wanted equipment.

    GAMEPAD Config Adjustments

October 10, 2024 – As part of the version update, a new feature is added to the gamepad button settings, allowing players to assign the /jump, /map, and Target Nearby NPC commands to a button on their controller. In addition, the Button Combination Settings feature is also added, allowing players to quickly perform certain actions by pressing button combinations of their choosing. The Target Nearby NPC command is also revised the following month as part of November's version update, so that the targeting prioritizes monsters over other NPC types.

    Behind-the-scenes Commentary
    The Paradox of Choice

When we started working on this feature, we had trouble deciding just how much should be assignable to the gamepad. At first, we created a mock-up of the UI with everything we wanted to include in it, but we found it was too difficult to actually adjust the settings and also know what the current setting values were, so we eventually pared the feature down to its current state. Adjustments to Besieged

November 11, 2024 – The monthly version update introduces the first round of updates designed to adapt Besieged content to players' current levels. The beastman cap is raised to Level 9, while the attacking monsters feature a content level of 99. Other adjustments are also implemented, including displaying the Five Serpent Generals' HP on-screen, as well as the addition of the new Imperial Standing currency and items that can be exchanged for it.

    Behind-the-scenes Commentary
A Constant Battle Against Capacity Limits

When one thinks of Besieged, I imagine the city-based battle in Al Zahbi immediately comes to mind, but in actuality, there are many different elements to the content, and it can be hard to see how they are all interconnected. We also faced a problem with not having enough memory on the servers to run the necessary programming scripts, so we spent a lot of time optimizing the code. Going forward, increasing the level cap will once again result in the game not having enough memory to work with, so we are continually optimizing the content to this day. (Iori Watanabe, Planner)

Bug Fix Makes Alter Egos More Effective in Combat

November 11, 2024 – The version update fixes an issue wherein auto-targeting remains disabled even when alter egos and pets are auto-attacked by a monster. Previously, when alter egos and pets were attacked, they would not auto-target any monsters that were within the player's attack range, essentially removing them from the battle. However, this bug fix helps increase the alter egos' effectiveness. For example, when Valaineral targets multiple enemies with Uriel Blade, he can now subsequently attack the next monster as well.

"Echoes of Vana'diel - Jeuno: The First Walk" Added to FFXIV

November 12, 2024 – The release of patch 7.1, a large-scale update to FINAL FANTASY XIV, adds a new alliance raid, "Echoes of Vana'diel," and its first chapter, "Jeuno: The First Walk," to the game. This crossover content with FFXI features an original story centered on the character of Prishe and provides an alliance raid battle for up to 24 players, while bringing back notable areas and monsters from FFXI. Lower Jeuno is also added as an area that players can freely enter at any time.

    Behind-the-scenes Commentary
Showing Respect with Echoes of Vana'diel

Echoes of Vana'diel was developed under the watchful eye of the FFXI development team. You can see the level of respect that the FFXIV staff has for FFXI in various ways throughout the content. Naturally, that includes the lines spoken by characters within the game, but also carries over to the monsters and background maps that appear, and even the items that can be found. They added all kinds of content and features that are certain to be recognized by seasoned FFXI adventurers. Even the background music that plays in Lower Jeuno for the Starlight Celebration changes accordingly, so I feel like these little nods to FFXI are immediately felt by both adventurers and Warriors of Light alike.
This is content that is live, so how about stopping by and paying a visit to Prishe in FFXIV as well? (Yoji Fujito, Producer/Director)

    Thank You for Your Cooperation

This was FFXI's first survey to measure the satisfaction level of its players.
In addition to currently active adventurers, we also received a large number of responses from players who have been away from the game for an extended period of time.
At first, I figured that 5,000 responses would be a respectable number for our efforts, so you can imagine our surprise at your enthusiasm when we greatly exceeded that figure.
We plan to utilize the results of this survey to help guide our future developmental and operational efforts for the game. As such, I would like to thank all of you for your kind support! (Yoji Fujito, Producer/Director)
